It feels as though we are in an era where creatives are expected to stick to their lane with little to no deviation, think of all the scrutiny you see big names in the music industry get when they move from one genre to another or think of the ridicule celebrities in other fields have faced whenever they’ve tackled a new venture that is seen as out of their reach. Sometimes these skeptics can come from a valid position but often this can be unfairly dismissive of the final product and ultimately; it misses the point of the creative nature artists are born with.
Micah Dailey-White first came onto the scene via his short comedic skits on tiktok, the dynamite sense of humor he displayed along with the persona he built up led to a massively successful 2024 where his growth kept going and going up to the point of reaching millions of followers across his platforms. however given what followed, it’d be natural to think this was a mere set up for a new career as in the middle of that year he dropped his self titled album, “Micah”.
It would be a bit misleading to act like his musical career came out of left field seeing as he already had the fairly successful single “One On One” featuring Headband Henny from the year before alongside some other early tracks but it was this release that put everything into motion. The album has 12 tracks and 29 minutes that were mostly only put together by Micah himself, this makes for a project that really works out as a great musical CV. There's a real sonic signature to the whole record, despite Micah going through several different styles such as R&B, alternative rock and dance there’s a real cohesion, almost like the most optimal blend of styles and aesthetics from the short form content era of music. The instruments have a nice shein and filter on them that give them a nostalgic pop, all the tracks have really pronounced ambiances and there’s a real tight control over all the ideas in the record. On the musical end of things Micah provides some really solid vocals and stellar arrangements throughout the record, his knack for making hooks out of the elements in his mix is extremely palpable and shows a greater level of polish than that of other peers.
This is one of the younger careers i've tackled so far but easily one of the most exciting as well, with the platform he's already built and the sheer excellence of his output Micah has achieved a really exciting trajectory with his music, one that’s aided by his recent single “Trouble”. We’ll be looking forward to seeing what the future holds.
